While every building is truly a modern marvel, civil engineers have shaped history through their designs and achievements that are continually pushing forward and defining future landmarks through jaw dropping achievements.

The Channel Tunnel
Connecting England to France, this tunnel was originally proposed by Albert Mathieu in 1802 - and eventually completed in 1994. At 31 miles long, the entire tunnel provides car, bus, and train travelers an alternative to flying when crossing the English Channel. Burj Khalifa

Its 163 floors are filled with 900 high-end elegant apartments, providing residents with the view of a lifetime that they experience by simply looking out of their living room window.
Millau Viaduct
Nestled in the South of France is one of engineering's most impressive marvels, the Millau Viaduct. Standing at a maximum of 1,104 feet tall and totalling 8,071 feet long, the Millau Viaduct cost roughly $424 million. However, its construction was completed on December 14, 2004 after just three years of development and construction.
Prior to its completion, spanning the communes of Millau and Creissels required descending into the Tarn valley and creating hours of congestion and plenty of frustration for the surrounding community. In an effort to link the two limestone plateaus surrounding the route, the viaduct was planned and constructed where it continues simplifying transportation for motorists.
Palm Islands
